    How I can help you

Perhaps life isn't making sense to you right now, or you are feeling lost or overwhelmed and you need some help. I'm Roy, a warm, open, honest, compassionate and professional therapist, with both a body of experience and occasionally a dry sense of humour to offer. I believe I can be of assistance.

    What to expect

Thinking about going to see a counsellor can be off-putting. Something to think about though is that most people will seek professional counselling at some point in their lives. We are used to seeking out expert help with our careers, legal matters, or finances. But the one area most people resist getting help is in their personal lives.

I’m providing such a professional service. You can expect a warm, kind, and empathic response from me when we work together. We will look at how things are for you and explore ways to make sense of things.

    About me

Choosing a therapist is not easy.  What makes therapy work, research suggests, is a strong relationship between the client and therapist.  So, knowing a bit about the background of your potential therapist can help build trust, the basis of good relationships

I am a relational integrative psychotherapist and has a private practice in Nottingham city centre. I have over 3 years experience as a therapist and have worked as a substance misuse practitioner too. Before training as a psychotherapist I worked for more than 15 years in local government, higher education, the NHS, and the charity sector

Certificate of Higher Education Health and Social Care Studies (Sheffield Hallam University)
Bachelor of Science (Honours) Computer Systems and Business Studies (University of Wales, Bangor)
Postgraduate Diploma Integrative Psychotherapy and Counselling (Coventry University) - as part of an ongoing Masters degree (Sherwood Psychotherapy Training Institute)

Roy has completed specialist training in counselling survivors of childhood sexual abuse, gambling addiction, terminal illness, substance misuse, mentoring, creative therapies, and motivational interviewing

Psychotherapy has many different schools of thought about what it is to be human and what is useful when it comes to helping others lead lives that make sense to them. As a relational integrative psychotherapist I draw from many complementary theories and blend them into a tailored approach for the individual. At the heart of this approach is a belief that through a strong therapeutic relationship our problems that stem from how we grew up can be examined and potentially changed. Those parts of our personality that are undeveloped have the potential to worked with, strengthened, and be integrated into who we are now. Our old ways of being can be challenged, with the hope of change in this process

I work from a humanistic perspective and integrate theories from psychodynamic, object relations, self psychology, Gestalt, and transactional analysis psychotherapy
