    How I can help you

Like many I believe that first impressions do count, so it's important for people who have taken their first steps in finding a therapist; one who has the skills and experience to help them with their problem, that they will also feel the therapist is someone they are comfortable talking to.   I am sensitive to the probability that many people will experience discomfort and awkwardness making the initial contact.  It's understandable.  So it is important that you know 'right now', that when you contact me, I will respond to your enquiry with a warm and welcoming readiness to put you at ease so you can tell me about your problem without feeling judged.

    What to expect

My aim is to provide you with a safe and supportive place to talk through your problems so that you can express your feelings and emotions without feeling too self-conscious.  I believe that each one of us holds within us the answers to our all of our problems.  I have walked alongside individuals  from many walks of life, helping them identify and trust in their own wisdom and strengths, so that I can help them navigate their own way through their current difficulty.  I don't have a 'one size fits all' approach to therapy and I don't label people as either 'good, sad, bad or mad'.  I truly believe you, and me, all of us, are doing our very best to survive in the best way we can. For one reason or another we can all get lost sometimes on the journey through life.  At times we may feel we have become disconnected in our relationships with those we love.  We may believe that we don't fit in like other people appear to.  My intention will be to get to know you so that I can tailor therapy to meet your uniquely individual needs.

    About me

I am trained in Person-Centred Counselling, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT).

I have considerable experience working with people with addictions at various stages in their  recovery - both in my private practice and throughout the ten years I worked within drug and alcohol treatment and recovery services. I can offer 'harm reduction' advice and information in relation to alcohol use/misuse and recreational substance use/misuse.

Trauma Therapy:  For many people, coping with everyday life after experiencing trauma seems impossible.  Trauma can, and sometimes does, change a persons world completely; to the point they feel trapped in their own personal internal hell.   Whilst we cannot change the world back to how it was before the trauma, working together we can find a way to integrate the experience so that you will feel able to engage with life in a new way - a way that allows you to experience yourself, others and life, with more hope and love and, above all, less fear.

Whether we meet face to face or online my aim is to provide each person with a safe and supportive space, and a relationship based on respect and compassion. I am committed to providing a service which is welcoming to people of all backgrounds, is supportive, non-judgemental and non-discriminatory. My aim is to assist people to achieve self-understanding, healing and growth.

I take referrals from a number of Employee Assistance Providers to the private sector and Government departments.

In addition to the issues listed below I also offer Psychedelic Integration Therapy, the aim of which is to assist those seeking support in relation to difficult psychedelic experiences, so that they can benefit from a better understanding of the sometimes challenging thoughts and feelings brought up during a past psychedelic journey. Alternatively, those who have found the use of psychedelics to be a positive method for gaining insight, can use this supportive therapy to integrate learning and knowledge gained during their experience, into their every day lives.

Due to the legal implications for possession of psychedelic substances, individuals seeking support for such experiences, or those simply looking to better understand and make use of the insights they gained, find they have nowhere to turn.   And while the use of almost all psychedelic substances is illegal in the UK, and most other countries around the world, the reality is that many  people do continue to make use of these substances in a variety of settings and contexts. Psychedelic Integration Therapy is tailored to meet people with full engagement and open curiosity, in order to aid those who seek support in navigating their relationship with these substances safely.  To find out more about Psychedelic Integration Therapy, as well as current research in the application of psychedelic  substances in psychotherapy and medicine, please visit Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Research.  You will find me listed in the Resource section there.

    N.B.: I am a LGBTQI affirmative therapist.

My initial three years [1996-1999] of training and study established me in the Person Centred Approach. This has remained my core therapeutic approach. However, over the years I have done further training and I have developed my skills and knowledge and, in order to provide the right support for each of my unique clients, draw from a range of models and interventions.  I integrate theories and practice from mainly three types of therapy: Person-Centred - Cognitive Behavioural –Transactional Analysis. I also offer Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) as a 'stand-alone' therapeutic intervention or as an adjunct to whatever model is in use, to help address the underlying energetic aspects of a specific problem.

You may be experiencing anxiety and/or depression, the pain of grief, illness, relationship issues; or possibly some form of addictive behaviour. You may have been struggling for a long time to move forward with your life because you experienced something traumatic in your past; or you feel held hostage by low self-esteem, depression or an anxiety disorder.

One thing I would like to reassure you about today is, that whatever your problem, my aim is to support you and help you work through, and out of, your problem. I do not have a one size fits all approach. ‘Your’ problem is just that, YOURS! - No one else is living with it except you. I am here and I am ready to listen.

I can still be contacted quickly when it shows I am offline [i.e.: When the Green dot is not showing]. I will answer all messages sent to me.  Messages sent between 9.00 pm and 7.30 am Mon-Fri will be responded to between 7.45 am and 10.30 am.  Messages sent on a Saturday and/or Sunday will be answered on the Monday after 7.45 am and before 10.30 am.
