How I can help you
I offer both short term counselling and brief solution focused therapy (up to 6 sessions); longer term counselling/ psychotherapy, and / or EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Re-processing) based upon your needs. Affording you the time and space to explore your issues to gain some clarity.
What to expect
Throughout our sessions I will be alongside you as you make sense of what is happening, before coming to some sort of resolution. I will endeavour to provide you with a safe 'containing' space, where you do not feel judged, no matter what issues you bring to counselling. Our first session is an introductory session, for us to explore what brings you to therapy and for me to explain more fully about myself. Together we can then decide if more sessions would be helpful.
I am an experienced accredited BACP registered counsellor/ psychotherapist, and qualified EMDR practitioner (working towards accreditation with EMDR Europe). I have a MA in Counselling and Psychotherapeutic Practice, PG Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy, MSc. in Psychology, MA in Special Educational Needs, PG Diploma in Autism Spectrum Conditions. I am currently studying towards a Professional Doctorate in Counselling and Psychotherapy at Chester University.
I am experienced in working with clients with a range of presenting issues including anxiety, low mood and depression, low self-esteem, complex bereavement; including those bereaved by the death of a child (including miscarriage, medical termination and still birth) and those bereaved by murder or suicide; clients with eating disorders, trauma work (including post-traumatic stress disorder), obsessive compulsive behaviour, self- harm and suicidal thoughts.
I have worked within Child and Adolescent Mental Health since 1996; working systemically with children, young people and their families.
I have extensive experience of working therapeutically both face to face and on-line with individuals (both children and adults) with learning disabilities and individuals with developmental disorders such as Autism Spectrum Conditions (including Asperger's Syndrome). This can relate to issues of diagnosis and what this means for you or about adapting my work to meet your needs.
In addition to my private practice, I work as a counsellor in a specialist service offering bereavement counselling and interventions to anyone impacted by the death of a child, however old, from conception onward; however recent or long ago.
I am a lecturer on the MA in Counselling and Psychotherapy at Liverpool John Moores University.
