How I can help you
I will work with whatever issues you want to discuss, without judgement or jumping in to offer advice. Sometimes what is needed is simply open-minded listening and the opportunity to 'offload'; at other times there may be specific difficulties or complex matters you want to address which take time, skill and patience to resolve. The range of skills I have developed over eight years of counselling work and through related, prior experience gives me confidence that I can assist most clients.
I am also happy to work with clients who may not have any particular issues to work through, but who wish to explore aspects of their career or work relationships to improve understanding and skills. With a Masters Degree in Organisation Development and over 35 years of management and consultancy experience, I consider myself well-placed to provide such support.
I have also provided Clinical Supervision services since 2015, and I am happy to provide such support on line for those who need it.
What to expect
I do not give advice or provide answers, though I do offer information if that seems appropriate. I assist clients to work through issues using whatever approaches seem to be most useful, aiming to increase self-understanding and personal autonomy. I believe that we all have the ability to manage our lives effectively, but often this ability is reduced by adverse experiences. My work is aimed at helping clients to recover and develop their personal strengths, in order to live life realistically as they choose.
I have been working as a Counsellor since 2009, qualifying in 2011 and completing the level 5 Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling in 2016. I have a Foundation Degree in Counselling from the Open University and I expect to complete a Level 6 Diploma in Clinical Supervision in July 2017. My core training was in Person-Centred and Gestalt skills. I have undertaken supplementary training in CBT, Art Therapy, Relationship Counselling, Counselling Young People, Domestic Abuse Counselling, plus other short courses relevant to my work. I am also a Chartered Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development and an experienced HR and General Manager; I therefore feel especially able to offer work-related counselling and coaching where this is needed.
