    How I can help you

What you might expect to gain from working with me is insight, personal growth and the development of your inner wisdom; I believe that everyone has the capacity to grow and change, to work through issues such as depression, anxiety and low self-esteem.  I believe that we can create the lives we want for ourselves and develop our full potential; it is a matter of learning to find our way.

As a trained doula, I feel passionately about supporting women through the transition of pregnancy and birth into motherhood.  I have experience of supporting women through pregnancy related difficulties, birth trauma and postnatal depression.

I have a particular interest in a set of concepts called transactional analysis.  TA is a theory of personality and a theory of communication.  Where appropriate, I share relevant concepts with clients; they are easy to understand and apply to your own life, enabling you to know yourself, your motivations and your relationships better.

    What to expect

During our initial conversation, you'll be able to tell me a little about what's concerning you and ask any questions you might have.  It's also an opportunity for me to tell you a little about how I work and for us both to see if we would work well together.  There is no obligation to continue after this.

I work on a short and long term basis, depending on the needs of each individual.  It might be that you would prefer a one-off session to talk over what's worrying you; a stand-alone session can in itself be beneficial, for instance by enabling you to think of new solutions and to see things differently.  Sessions last for 50 minutes.  Whilst short term work can be very effective, it is the relationship with the therapist which brings about deeper and longer lasting change, so I usually suggest trying four sessions and reviewing how it's going after that.

I don't work anonymously.  For clients' safety and to work ethically, I ask people to provide name, address and phone number when we start working together.

    About me

I completed a four year training course in integrative psychotherapy, which means my approach draws on theories from many different schools of thinking within psychotherapy and counselling, including transactional analysis, person centred, psychoanalytic, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), gestalt and body work.  This means I am able to work creatively and flexibly with the needs of each individual client.

In addition to working in private practice, I am currently working as a child therapist within a school, for Place2Be.

I am a registered member of the BACP and UKATA and adhere to their codes of ethics and professional conduct.

I am committed to continuous professional and personal development, which enables me to keep up-to-date with the latest research in counselling and psychological therapies.
