TYPES OF DISSOCIATIVE DISORDERS


DISSOCIATIVE IDENTITY DISORDER

Also known as 'multiple personality disorder', this is the most extreme dissociative disorder. It involves struggling to know who you are and developing other identities within yourself who have their own unique personalities, voices and personal histories.

DISSOCIATIVE AMNESIA

Condition where you repeatedly have periods of amnesia, e.g. you have afterwards forgotten what you did and how you arrived at that location. It's far more noticeable than normal forgetfulness and not a result of an underlying medical condition.

DEPERSONALISATION-DEREALISATION DISORDER

Depersonalisation is when you feel disconnected from your body, perhaps observing yourself from outside of it. Derealisation is when you feel your surroundings aren't real. Having this disorder means you experience both depersonalisation and derealisation repeatedly, which can be distressing.
