How I can help you
I am a highly qualified and experienced BACP accredited and registered integrative therapist, with particular experience in helping clients online in various formats.
What to expect
I am trained integratively which means that I integrate more than one approach to counselling. I tend to explain the way that I work using the image of a fruit-bearing tree:
The fruit of the tree: The tree produces fruit which can be plucked off. In terms of counselling, this represents the things that you tend to do in response to the things that you tend to think. We can work to change these unwanted behaviours using Cognitive Behavioural techniques.
The roots of the tree: On many occasions, if you have a tree that is bearing bad or unwanted fruit, you will also want to sort the problem out at the root. In terms of counselling, this means using Psychodynamic Counselling techniques to understand both how your past has affected your present, and how your unconscious thoughts affect the thoughts and actions that you are conscious and aware of.
All of this is underpinned by a Person Centred approach, and approach and a philosophy which focusses on your inherent value as a person and the belief that each individual has the internal resources needed to make the changes that they want to make.
For a more detailed explanation of these approaches, please take a look at my website.
I have been working as a counsellor since 2008 in private practice, and in schools, universities and charities. I first began as an online counsellor so my greatest experience is in this way of working. I have specific online counselling qualifications (as well as my core qualifications): a Certificate in Using Video Conferencing to Conduct Online Therapy from the Online Therapy Institute and a Certificate in Online Counselling Skills.
The feedback I get from clients is that I'm warm, compassionate and insightful, and that I am able to explain complex psychological ideas in a way that is easy to understand.
The register to which I belong is vetted and approved by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care and has been accredited under a scheme set up by the Department of Health and administered by an independent body, accountable to Parliament.
