- My availability
I started my counselling career whilst bringing up my own four children. I am constantly developing and expanding my professional skills. I am a qualified Relate counsellor and work with couples, individuals, young adults and children. My degree in Psychosexual Therapy (PGDip) enables me to successfully work with clients with sexual dysfunction including LGBT.
I adopt an integrative approach so that I can choose the most appropriate therapies for my client. For example, I use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Techniques (CBT) to help overcome negative thoughts, feelings and behaviors and Psychodynamic Therapy to explore repressed emotions and experiences from your past. My client-centered approach means that I can offer a therapy strategy, which is tailor-made to the individual.
Relationship counselling may be with a partner, family member, friend or work colleague. I have extensive experience helping clients with relationship and communication problems. I am able to provide the necessary skills and strategies so that conflict can be managed in a healthy and constructive manner.
Couples that come to see me are often experiencing problems because they have lost that spark in their relationship and need help to rediscover and create the emotional and physical desire that initially attracted them to each other.
I welcome Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual , Transexual and Intersexual clients and have extensive experience working in this field. I focus on the whole person, and not just their sexual orientation or gender identity.
Within my practice I help couples overcome sexual dysfunction for example, Vaginismus, Dyspareunia and Anorgasmia (inability to have an orgasm). The most common dysfunction I am presented with is lack of desire or loss of libido. This can be devastating to either or ultimately both partners. I utilize Systemic Therapy in order to provide my clients with a bespoke treatment programme. This includes exercises which are carried out in the privacy of the client’s home.
Young person counselling
As a qualified Relate counsellor, I am uniquely placed to assist children and young adults who are experiencing problems. Common issues that I help with are self-harming, separation and divorce, exam stress, sexual abuse, depression and loss of a loved one.
I work hard to build a trusting relationship with my younger clients through therapies such as sand play, art therapy and play therapy.
Code of Ethics.
I adhere to the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) code of ethics and their principles of good practice. Confidentiality and professionalism combine to ensure an ethical approach and quality of service is provided. I am also a member of The College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists (COSRT) and I adhere to the strict code of ethics and guidelines set out by CORST. Also a member of BACP, both with CORST and BACP I am working towards my accreditation.
What to expect
Each session is 50 minutes long. I offer you a safe place to explore the issues that you as an individual or as a couple are experiencing. Together we will unpick and explore your problems so that you become empowered to make any necessary changes and achieve your goals. I believe in client-led counselling and will endeavor to work with whatever you bring to the session.
