How I can help you
As an Integrative counsellor I believe 'one size does NOT fit all' and that counsellors need to tailor the way they work in response to the uniqueness of each client they meet with. An Integrative counselling approach draws on a range of counselling theories. In my practice I include elements of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Person-Centred Practice, Psychodynamic Theory and Transactional Analysis.
I offer counselling to people presenting with a variety of issues, counselling adults, couples and young people (16+).
I am an experienced, registered and accredted counsellor with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and I also supervise the practice of other counsellors in line with BACP guidelines.
What to expect
Above all, we need to establish whether we, and especially you, feel that we can have a good working relationship; the starting point from which we can look together at addressing whatever concerns you wish to bring to counselling.
To do this we will meet for an initial appointment to discuss your concerns, this is an opportunity for you to ‘test’ how it feels to talk or be in the counselling room with me, for me to evaluate whether I believe I can be of therapeutic help to you and for us both to conclude whether to make an agreement to work together.
Please try not to worry if you’re not sure how to express your reasons for attending counselling or what you hope counselling might help with; we can always look at this together.
I have more than ten years experience of counselling in the voluntary sector and more than three years in private practice. I am also an experienced manager and supervisor.
Underpinning my practice is the premise (rooted in Personal Construct Theory) that we all have a unique ability to make meaning, or sense, of our lives and the extent to which I as a counsellor can understand a client's way of making meaning, or sense of their lives, is the extent to which I can be of therapeutic benefit to them. This is why it is SO important to find a counsellor who is a good therapeutic 'match' for you. I hope to hear from you if you think I may be able to help you....
